While distributing over Sh200,000 cash transfer money to elderly people from Wanyororo, Umoja, Kiamunyoki, Ndege, Ndimu and Njororo sub locations in his area of jurisdiction on Friday, Lanet Chief Francis Kariuki urged the marginalized persons to make good use of the money and not to use it for drinking and drug consumption among other misuses.

Chief Kariuki observed that some elderly and disabled old people who benefit from the government sponsored cash transfer funds were misusing the cash handouts by indulging in alcoholic and drug abuse behaviours.

He warned that those who will be found misusing the hard-earned government funds will be scrapped from the beneficiary list.

“It has come to our notice that some of the beneficiaries of this fund are misusing it by indulging in alcohol and drug consumption behaviours,” he said.

“Let this be a warning that those found misusing this money, which the government works hard to avail will automatically stop from benefiting from it. Please use this money to buy food, clothes and medical drugs. It is not meant for merrymaking but to provide basic needs,” noted the Chief.

At the same time, the chief urged elderly and disabled people in the area who have not registered as beneficiaries for the fund due to lack of National Identification cards to visit Huduma Centre in Nakuru town for help.

He also encouraged sick ling and physically disabled older people who cannot access his office to endorse caretakers who will register them and receive the money on their behalf.
