Lanet Umoja Chief Francis Kariuki has cautioned residents and food stuff traders in the area against the influx of counterfeit food products.
Speaking on Thursday in the area during an inspection tour carried out by public health officers, the chief said that some traders were adamantly getting supplies of counterfeit goods, and warned them to desist from the vice.
At the same time, he advised food traders in the area to practice caution when buying their stocks, and to report any suspected counterfeit food stuff dealers to authorities.
“It is unfortunate that some crooks are supplying our food traders with fake food stuff items like sugar, spices, cooking fat, milk, tea leaves and even flour,” he said.
“In fact some of our traders are adamantly accepting these products because they are cheap. This habit must stop because the government is aware and is carrying out investigations. We will not tolerate a few people exposing the health and lives of our people at risk because of greed,” warned the chief.
He further advised residents of the area to be aware of genuine food stuff and report to his office traders who are involved in the distribution of fake food stuff.
