Traders in Lanet have been warned against fake currencies being circulated by money laundering criminals in the area.

Lanet Business Operators Welfare Group Chairlady Teresiah Wanjohi, while addressing members of the group at a local hotel in the area on Friday during a luncheon that was attended by area Ward representative Samuel Mwangi observed that fake money criminals had invaded the area, and were causing losses to unsuspecting traders.

She said that police were investigating two Tanzanian nationals, who were arrested on Thursday in connection with counterfeit currency notes, and who are believed to be colluding with local criminals to circulate the counterfeit money.

“I beg to bring to your notice that there are people dealing with fake money who have invaded this area. Definitely you as traders are the targets by the crooks. You should take necessary precautions to avoid falling a victim,” said Wanjohi.

According to the business operators boss, the counterfeit money crooks were targeting unsuspecting small business traders’ like grocery shops, alcohol drinking joints, roadside traders, and transport businesses operators in the outskirts of Nakuru town, and mostly strike at evening and night hours.
