This is part of the 4.0 trillion shillings Lamu Port Southern Sudan- Ethiopia Transport Corridor project.

Transport Cabinet Secretary James Macharia says the construction of the three berths by a Chinese contractor is progressing on well and will be opened in the first quarter of 2018.

The government, through the LAPSSET Corridor Development Authority, has sought support from the British government to develop the master plan.

The British government recruited design, engineering and project management consultancy firm Atkins in September last year to develop the plan.
