Laptops distribution to three piloted schools in Kisii county has been concluded with area education authorities predicting improvement of digital curriculum delivery between teachers and pupils.
Getembe,Tendere and Nyamecheo primary schools had their management committees on hand to receive the tablets and witness the launch of the digital literacy programme.
During the inauguration ceremony at Getembe primary school on Tuesday in the outskirts of Kisii town, area county director of education, Richard Chepkawai disclosed that 56 pieces had been distributed to standard one pupils.
Two sets of laptops for instructional and monitoring of the content during learning by the teachers were part of the project’s package.
Chepkawai said the programme will help to curb pupil migration since they would not be provided another laptop in their new schools until funds for the new year were allocated.
Commending the education ministry for kick-starting the programme, the chairman Kisii county education board Henry Onderi stressed on the urgent need for parents to plan on how to sustain it.
He recommended the establishment of a kitty for the tablets’ maintenance and software upgrading owing to envisaged technological changes.
According to Onderi, the tablets should be considered as any other school property including sourcing for qualified technicians to service them.
