Speaking on Wednesday in the area, the residents expressed discontentment with the leadership of the area saying that they have done little effort in solving the situation.

Miriam Wangechi, a resident said they have gotten tired of fetching water from the river which is now contaminated.

“When we were small, we fetched water for use at the river and right now we are married and have children, the same thing is happening yet we have had leaders elected in this area in the past and nothing has been done,” she said.

John Kinyua added that many people have resulted to buying water since donkeys feed at the river and urinate thereby contaminating water and making it unsafe for consumption.

“People do not use water from the river nowadays because donkeys have been going there to feed and they urinate and that water cannot be consumed,” he said.

They appealed to the county government to help them get piped water to their homes and ease the burden of fetching at the river for the last fifty years.
