Livestock farmers in Githirioni Location have been challenged to boost their efforts to increase their income capacity from livestock by agricultural official.

Lari Sub-county Livestock Officer Richard Gachuiri pointed out that the livestock sub-sector in Lari has great potential to generate wealth to farmers if properly livestock farming practices are applied.

Speaking to farmers at Githirioni on Friday, Gachuiri said that the livestock farming in Lari is not fully exploited due to lack of information to farmers.

He urged farmers to cooperate with the Ministry of Agriculture in order to access modern farming skills.

“The county government has set the ministry to help farmers with best farming practices to enable them reap maximum benefits and improve their livelihoods,” said the officer.

He said that the county government is in the process of setting up animal feeds factory in the county to help farmers access animal feeds at fordable prices.

He said that the proposed plant would lock out exploitative middlemen who sell the feeds to farmers at high prices.

He further said that the factory would manufacture high standard feeds as opposed to sub-standard samples that have flooded the market.

James Mwangi, a farmer expressed hope in the efforts being directed by the county government in reviving the ailing livestock sector and urged the county government to pump more resources to make it successful as its the backbone of the location.
