Two nursery schools in Kirenga, Lari Sub County in Kiambu will be facilitated by a Non Governmental Organasation to start a free porridge feeding program to their pupils.
According to Kiambu County Education Executive, Esther Ndirangu, the NGO, Bridge Foundation, had requested the county government last year to help them identify two schools with many needy pupils so that they can start the program this year.
"Bridge Foundation is an organisation committed on education matters,” said Ndirangu.
"When they approached us on this matter we were delighted and we have recommended Kirenga and Kabunge Early Childhood Development schools,” said Ndirangu.
She explained that the two areas are much affected by poverty.
Ndirangu said that they now expect school enrollment in the two schools to go high as many kids in the area are not taken to school due to lack of basic needs like food.
"The NGO has offered to be feeding them with a very nutritious porridge,” notes Ndirangu.
She was speaking in Kirenga on Wednesday when she and the NGO officials visited the institution.
