Speaking from his office today, the chief inspector mentioned that the past three months have seen 28 business owners in the area conned of their money.

Ouko said that the most targeted have been the M-Pesa agents with 17 out of the 28 being M-Pesa operators.

He said that there is relief for all business owners and residents in the area as police are working to curb this form of crime.

The OCS observed that con artists have been using social media sites and other websites to reach the victims.

He advised that residents who have been through this experience to come forth so that the police can get the right information and formulate a way to contain this crime.

He also urged residents with any information on the perpetrators of this crime to report to the nearest police station as the criminals are expanding their network.

Ouko said that the continued unity between the police and the residents will help contain this growing crime as it has in other crimes.

The police boss said that this net is going to nab even those using the social media to spread hate speech and send abusive messages. He also said that those sending scare messages will not be left out.

He urged residents to shun use of social media for ill purposes as no one will be spared.

The OCS revealed that the police are using machine trackers to track the perpetrators of this crime and they are sure to curb this menace before it gets out of hand.

He said that this will ensure that business owners conduct their businesses without fear of being conned.
