The disgruntled women who stormed chang’aa brewing dens in the area said that the youths in the region have completely lost focus and theirs is only to laze around the whole day before going binge drinking in the evening. They blamed the police for conniving with the chang’aa brewers to promote the evil.

“It is just the other day that we were burying four of those who had died as a result of consuming the illicit liquor. The shameless brewers were as usual selling the same brew that had killed the four. We are worried that this village will not have any man left if the trend continues,” said a demonstrator.

Lari police chief Peter Ouko who had a tough time convincing the irate women said that measures were being put in place to fight the vice. He informed them that samples from various alcoholic drinks being sold in the area have been taken to the government chemist for testing.

“We are taking the samples to ensure that the killer brews do not continue taking more lives”, said Ouko.

Cases of people succumbing to illicit brews have recently been on the rise with National Authority for Campaign against Drug Abuse (Nacada) and local administrations taking a sizeable blame for doing little to fight the vice.
