Renowned NTV journalist Larry Madowo has faulted the 'illegal detention' of lawyer Miguna Miguna by the authorities.

In a tweet, Madowo noted that even though he disagreed a lot with Miguna, it was not okay for the government to infringe on his rights.

"I disagree with Miguna Miguna on a lot and he’s still not welcome on my show but I don’t support his illegal detention," he posted.

Madowo condemned those supporting Miguna's detention stating that the same could happen to them in future.

"If you support the government infringing on one citizen’s rights, do you think it will respect yours?" he posed.

Miguna was arrested on Friday over claims that he participated in an illegal oath taking ceremony of NASA leader Raila Odinga.

Following his arrest, he was presented in court where an order was issued directing the police to release him but he was still held in custody.

His arrest came just a day after the government launched a crackdown on opposition leaders who participated in Odinga's inauguration on Tuesday.

Other leaders who were arrested include MPs TJ Kajwang and George Aladwa.
