Procrastination is the act of delaying activities. The students know this best as they study for a test only hours to it.

Over the years, it has become one of the trade mark qualities that make us Kenyans.

We have grown accustomed to meeting deadlines on time, in time or not meeting them at all.

More often than not, institutions are forced to extend the deadlines.

Despite the numerous adverts on both print and electronic media by the Kenya Revenue Authority to for people to file their tax returns, a majority of were unable to do so until the very last day, which happens to be end of business day on Thursday.

Filing the returns online became almost impossible due to the high traffic the site was experiencing.

Hundreds of taxpayers all over the country, left with no choice, queued outside KRA offices.

The usually lifeless offices, had become like polling stations.

Realising that they could end up paying the hefty fines, these taxpayers were already calling for extension of the deadline.

Some claimed that they were unaware of the process or didn’t know how to do it online.

The procrastination is not limited to national activities only but in our day to day activities as well.

Perhaps the last minute was made for us. What would we do without it?
