Mbau, speaking in his Thika Town on Tuesday, noted that despite numerous warning notices to owners of condemned buildings to have them vacated, many were yet to heed to them.

"Our field officers have been going round to ascertain whether the directive we issued early on September was adhered to," said Mbau.

He added: "In the directive we had instructed both the owners and the occupants of structures we had identified as unsuitable for habitation to vacate. We have since established that many did not comply with the order and we may be forced to apply the law as required. Let the parties involved obey the order now before it is too late."

Mbau said that majority of the said condemned structures are in major towns and shopping centres within the county. He said that, though the houses pose a great risk to occupants throughout, they are now more dangerous with the ongoing heavy rains.

"The rains are intensifying every day and we are not going to wait for a catastrophe to happen so that we can act. Be warned," said Mbau.
