The 2022 presidential battle continues to take shape, as Kenyans place their bet on their preferred candidates.
The latest poll by Ipsos Synovate says Deputy President William Ruto is leading the pack of the young breed of State House hopefuls from either divide of Kenya’s political environment.
Others are KANU chairman and Baringo Senator Gideon Moi who came in second after DP Ruto followed by Mombasa County boss and ODM Deputy Party leader Hassan Joho.
The fourth person is NASA leader Raila Odinga. Mr Odinga’s 2022 game plan is still unclear. However, the initial NASA Coalition agreement stipulated that the ODM party chief was to back one of the other three NASA principals; Musalia Mudavadi (ANC), Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper) and Moses Wetangula (Ford Kenya).
IPSOS lead researcher Tom Wolf said during a press briefing on Tuesday Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua (Maendeleo Chap Chap) came is fifth.
He added that the other three co-principals of the National Super Alliance (NASA): Moses Wetangula, Musalia Mudavadi and Kalonzo Musyoka did not rank highly in the survey that was conducted before the Uhuru-Raila March 9 “handshake”.
The impact of the handshake is thus not measured by the poll.
