The inspection which mostly targets cholera prone areas is expected to bring a long lasting solution to the cholera out break which has affected the area.

For now the outbreak has claimed seven lives.

Migori County Health Director, Dr Joel Godi, noted that there are very few latrines in the county.

“We fear that the outbreak may get worse since most families do not have latrines, hence reliving themselves in bushes,” said Godi.

Godi noted most residents use untreated river water despite that they relieve themselves in bushes.

Godi said that public health officers and chiefs will tour all regions in the county and take action aganist families without latrines.

He however said that the ministry is trying to curb the situation.

"This week we have only reported eight new cases; we have managed to treat three of them leaving five admitted in the hospital,” said Godi.

He refuted claims by a daily newspaper that more than 700 patients are admitted at their facilities.

“The county has so far reported a total of 632 cases of cholera outbreak. They are all treated, we only have four cases in the hospital,” said Godi.
