Two MPs from Kisii have expressed the need to have a regional political party for Nyamira and Kisii counties.

Bomachoge Chache MP Alfah Miruka and South Mugirango MP Silvanus Osoro said residents are politically split with one group being in Jubilee and others in NASA.

According to the lawmakers, a regional political party will boost the bargaining power for the Gusii community to get a share of the national cake.

"The Gusii community is divided along political lines. As a region, we need a regional party that will unite out leaders and residents as this will ensure the community talks in one voice when it comes to matters of national importance", said Osoro.

He challenged political leaders from the region to consider the idea ahead of the 2022 general elections.

"We need a weapon before 2022 and that will be a regional party in which leaders will use seeking elective posts and negotiate for a share in the national government", he added.

Miruka said it is high time for Kisii and Nyamira counties to unite.
