Lawyer Havi Nelson Andayi had been disqualified from running for the presidency at Law Society of Kenya (LSK).
LSK Secretary-General, Mercy Wambua, in a letter to the council, said Havi was yet to attain 15 years in practice from the date of his admission as provided for under Section 18 of Advocates Act and therefore not eligible.
According to the CEO, any aforementioned person shall not be allowed to vie for the society’s posts in the forthcoming elections or any other exercise until he or she meets the required qualifications.
Havi said he will never beg on his knees for favors and urged the LSK to keep their posts.
On his response to LSK laws and CEO, Havi said that Section 18 of Law Society Act for qualification as Council Member, Vice President, and President, discriminated young advocates on account of age contrary to Article 27 of Constitution of Kenya.
“Section 18 of the LSK Law Society Act for qualifications for election as Council Member, Vice President, and President discriminates against young Advocates on account of age contrary to Article 27 of CoK,” said Havi on his twitter handle.
He demanded relevant authorities to ensure the controversial sections of the law, in Law Society of Kenya Act, are amended to avoid a repeat of the same issues in the future elections of the society.
The lawyer had submitted his papers for application of presidential candidature earlier this month.
