A Nakuru-based lawyer was on Monday arraigned in court over allegations of acquiring money by false pretence.
Maureen Njeri Muiruri is alleged to have defrauded Chandrakant Lalji Shah of 3.8 million Shillings on the 24th of June 2016 in a fraudulent land deal.
She allegedly purported to be in a position to sell a piece of land together with a group of others who were not in court in Nakuru town.
The accused, who was later arrested on January 21 this year, appeared before Nakuru Principal Magistrate Justice Liz Gicheha, where she denied the allegations and was freed on a sh1million bond with a surety of a similar amount.
However, according to the prosecution, the suspect has another case of similar nature, with the court being informed that she had another charge of concealing land documents with the aim to defraud.
She was allegedly involved in a tittle deed concealing the scheme, a crime she committed with an aim of illegally disposing two pieces of land in Miti Mingi Mbaruk on May 16, 2013.
''She, however, did not answer to the new charge after her lawyer Kamau Chomba asked the court to postpone it.
“I apply to have plea deferred, due to her nature of work, she moved to another office and in the cause of relocating left some of her furniture in her previous office and has not been able to access the same,” Chomba is quoted by the Star.
The case is set to be heard on January 29, 2018.
