A city lawyer and West Mugirango parliamentary hopeful Steve Mogaka has trashed the now infamous Otamba declaration, urging leaders involved to strive for economic development in the region to advance unity.
In a radio interview with a local channel on Thursday, Mogaka faulted leaders involved in the declaration for failing to deliver on their core mandate especially on matters legislation in the 11th Parliament.
"Omogusii unity is not about forming political parties, joining the government and or forming alliances. We ought to distinguish between political unity and Omogusii unity. Our unity entails coercing togetherness among us for common goals," he said.
"All our Gusii MPs have failed us, I did expect that once elected to Parliament they would come together as the Omogusii and push for our agenda irrespective of their party affiliations," he added.
The Otamba declaration was spearheaded by former CIC chairperson Charles Nyachae, Kisii County Senator Chris Obure, Kisii County Deputy Governor Joash Maangi and a number of legislators largely drawn from Kisii County.
According to the leaders, the move is aimed at uniting the Gusii community ahead of the 2017 general election.
