[Photo: kenya-today.com]A Nairobi court on Wednesday gave a lawyer two weeks to repay Sh16 million she is accused of stealing by an agent.When the case came up for mention before Milimani magistrate Peter Ooko, reports the Star, the court was informed the accused, lawyer Janet Njanja, is still negotiating with the complainant to settle the matter out of court.The court heard that the accused has already paid Sh1.7 million and she needs more time to clear the balance.However, the prosecution denied the complainant has been paid the amount.The prosecution asked the court to order the case to be mentioned in two weeks, on October 25, for the complainant to confirm whether the money has been deposited to the right bank account.According to the Star, the charges against the lawyer state that between March 4 and 5, 2015, in Nairobi county, Njanja, being an agent of Ogeto Stephen, stole Sh16 million, which had been entrusted to her to deliver to one Nishma Nisshit for the sale of land LR No 209/1429/2.She is also charged with issuing a bad cheque for Sh980,000 in favour of Fastem Supplies payable to the account at Co-operative Bank, Aga Khan Walk branch. According to the other four counts, the accused is said to have also issued bad cheques for Sh850,000, Sh384,000, Sh880,000 and Sh930,000.
