Speaking to this writer on Monday during an interview, lawyer Bernard Kipkoech Ng'etich said the gender rule as stipulated in Constitution should not be taken for granted, and that women should also be elected to close the gap which seems to portray them as minority.

"The gender rule is very clear to ensure a third representation of either gender and the society should stand firm to ensure this rule is attained despite the challenges experienced each and every time,"he said.

On the issue of why the National Assembly failed to pass the gender Bill, Ng'etich said the blame should not lie with the MPs but rather the society which has failed to elect women to political seats.

He also appealed to the male leaders to put aside their male chauvinism and support women leadership.

"We know the Bill did not sail through but that does not mean that the blame should be on men. NO...the society at large has failed to elect women and therefore the mentality should change."

The lawyer who is the former LSK Rift Valley chair also noted that if women are elected to meet the gender rule, then the that would save the taxpayers money.

According to him, most women leaders are nominated and this becomes a burden to the taxpayer who has to ensure the leaders receive their salaries.

"If we elect many women to meet the gender rule, then we shall have saved the taxpayer and I therefore urge the society to think of the same in order to save common man,"he said.

His sentiments come even after retired president Daniel Moi also called on the male gender to respect women leadership and ensure that women are also elected in political posts.
