Former Law Society of Kenya Chairperson Okong’o Mogeni has warned Cord and Jubilee coalition against including Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria and Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama in the IEBC talks respectively.
The two are viewed as hardliners in their respective coalitions and Mogeni fears that they will sabotage the structured talks.
Speaking to the writer on Wednesday, Mogeni labeled them ‘saboteurs’ and insisted that they were likely to drag talks over the IEBC stalemate.
“We need to get new commissioners in the IEBC but the dialogue we are about to start cannot succeed if Kuria and Muthama are included. Only sober minds can give a solution to the stalemate and I don’t think the two hardliners can manage to guide us there,” he said.
“They are saboteurs and I don’t think they will bring substance to the table. My appeal to President Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga to strictly go for individuals who are flexible to face these matters,” he added.
Mogeni also insisted that time had come for the commissioners to exit from office and pleaded with them to voluntarily resign without necessarily being subjected to select Senate and National assembly committee.
“The commissioners have previously shown their biases and I don’t think they have any business in the office. It’s my advice to them to voluntarily resign without necessarily being subjected to the joint house committee. But the most important thing is that the two individuals should be avoided in any structured talks,” he said.
