Angry lawyers, activists, taxi drivers and boda boda operators Monday morning took to the streets across the country protesting over the brutal murder of lawyer Willie Kimani, his client and their taxi driver.
The peaceful demonstrations were announced by the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) last week highlighting that lawyers would boycott work for one week in solidarity with the slain colleague.
In Nairobi, protesters convened at Freedom corner in Uhuru Park from where they marched to the Office of Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet at Jogoo house. and proceeded to Nyayo House.
Constitutional expert Prof Yash Pal Ghai argued that the police must be held responsible as there have been numerous killings linked to the service men with no action taken.
The protesters called for the ouster of Mr Boinnet and Mr Nkaissery from office.
In Mombasa, the demos started at the Mombasa Law Courts with Governor Ali Hassan Joho and Mvita Member of Parliament Shariff Nassir joining demonstrators.
These protests were set to take place in major towns across the country including Eldoret where lawyers sought explanation from the Eldoret Police Station.
