The Kisumu Law Society of Kenya (LSK) chairman, Francis Olel told this writer that the lawyers and the civil society will form a committee that will seek to tackle the current cases of abductions and mysterious deaths that are now on the rise.

Mr Olel said the move was agreed on during the professionals’ meeting at the Kisumu magistrate’s court in which the civil society had been represented.

He said cases that had been affected for the two days were rescheduled and allocated possible convenient dates by the court.

He said the committee shall work with the regional police commandants and the Director of Public Prosecution’s office to have the cases of extrajudicial killings and disappearance of members of the public investigated.

“The trend has been on the rise and we value every human life regardless of their profession and place in society, it is a right everyone equally deserves but it has been unfortunate that we have many killings and disappearance cases that have not been unraveled,” said Mr Olel.

This comes as the Power of Mercy Advisory Committee (POMAC) in conjunction with National Crime Research Centre (NCRC) and the Office of the Attorney General held a public debate on either the abolition or retention of the death penalty at the Kisumu social hall on Friday.
