Lawyers in Mombasa will for ten days offer free legal services to residents in memory of slain lawyer Willie Kimani who was murdered in June 2016.
Mombasa Law Society of Kenya chief Benson Njoroge said on Wednesday 96 lawyers will be on standby to offer the service between June 29 and July 8.He said LSK Mombasa chapter will invite more legal practitioners in other regions to offer the services in the Coastal town.Lawyers have been holding vigils across the country in remembrance of the late Kimani who was murdered one year ago.Bodies identified as those of Kimani and his taxi driver Joseph Muiruri were found on July 1, 2016 in a river in Ol-Donyo Sabuk, Machakos County after the two mysteriously went missing.Another body said to be that of Kimani’s client Josephat Mwenda was also found at Ol-Donyo Sabuk river bank.The LSK alongside the International Justice Mission have been holding week long series of activities to commemorate one year since the brutal murder of Kimani and two others.Police officers Fredrick Leliman, Stephen Chebulet, Leonard Mwangi and Silvia Wanjiku were arrested and detained over the killings.
