Tobiko said illegal logging on government forests must stop with immediate effect.

Karura forest in Kiambu has been a major victim of illegal logging.

"Rangers must work hard to stop illegal poaching and unnecessary cutting of trees in forests. Officers who will be found sleeping on their jobs will be sacked without notice," he said.

The CS said it is worrying that despite efforts by the government to conserve the environment there are some saw millers cutting trees in forests illegally.

"Some rangers are colluding with saw millers to illegally cut down trees in government forests. Anyone found will be dealt with in accordance with the law," he added.

He also called on National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA) to punish any suspect found being in possession of the banned plastic bags.

He assured that he will streamline the environment department

Tobiko was speaking at his Mazingira office in Nairobi on Monday when he assumed office.
