Odero termed the act as barbaric and outdated, saying it is unfortunate that some mourners decided to heckle Defence Cabinet Secretary Rachel Omamo while reading President Uhuru Kenyatta's message.

Speaking in Kisumu on Sunday, Odero, who deals in large-scale shipping on Lake Victoria, urged youths from the Luo community to learn to be tolerant and desist from heckling leaders when they attend such functions.

Odero said Omamo is a leader and a daughter from the lake region who deserved a better treatment from her people.

Odero has now challenged leaders from the Luo community to take a lead in stopping such behaviours, adding that if not done then the community will be painted in bad light.

"Our elected leaders must now wake up and look for a solution to this behaviour before it gets out of hand,” said Odero.
