Garissa youths have been encouraged to apply for low-interest loans from the Affirmative Action Fund.
The Garissa Woman Representative Shukran Gure has appealed to the unemployed youths to venture into avenues for self-employment instead of looking for white-collar jobs that do not exist at their disposal.
Speaking during the finals of her sponsored football tournament at Garissa Primary playgrounds, Shukran said that unemployed youths need to be empowered as they are an easy target for Al-Shabaab recruiters due to their financial needs.
Shukran added the fund would greatly help youths become self-reliant.
“I advise our youths not to be lured into extremist terror groups because it will be counterproductive to the local societies and the country at large. Several youths who have since joined terror groups have been killed. This has only served to heighten misery of their families,” she said.
During the Gure tournament, the Black Stars won after beating Takwa FC 1-0. The winning team pocketed Sh 50,000 and a trophy.
