A section of leaders from Sigowet/Soin region has asked Kericho Governor Paul Chepkwony to shelve the plans to upgrade Kerenga airstrip and instead concentrate on providing basic needs to the residents.

Led by Dr. Wilson Soy, the leaders claimed that the airstrip was not a priority at the moment as many residents from the area lacked clean water and good roads.

They expressed their fears that the project could turn out to a cash cow like others which they said had been established but stalled.

Soy said the upgrading of and any aviation works was a national government function and wondered why the governor was fighting hard to use county funds in upgrading the airstrip.

He challenged the county government to table the feasibility study report detailing the scope of works which the Sh100m he has allocated to the project will cover.

Last week, a fight ensued in the county assembly chambers after MCAs differed over the project.
