Leaders from Nyamira North District in Nyamira County have been asked to respect teachers and stop abusing and mocking them in meetings.
The parents’ association chairman in the district Vincent Ngura said it is shameful for leaders to make parents hate on teachers by mocking them in public.
Ngura noted that such acts of mocking and abusing head teachers in public and especially in education related meetings will make the levels of education drop in the region.
“If our leaders continue abusing our teachers in public the levels of education will be highly affected in the region because it becomes so shameful when a teacher is abused even before the students,” he said.
He called on the leaders to stop this hostility noting that principals might have problems but the way forward is not degrading them in public and before their students as it is more demoralising.
Ngura asked the leaders to bring together the children, the teachers and the parents to find where exactly the problem is from and not to blame only on teachers.
He added that both elected and appointed leaders should respect teachers if the county wants to improve on the level of education in the county as a whole.
