Leaders in Kisii county have been asked to help in the fight against the jiggers infestation in most parts of the county.
According to Kisii based Non Governmental Organization Health is Wealth Director Irene Mogere, there was need to ensure that there is no child in the county who is infected with the jiggers and that can be achieved easily if the leaders help them.
Speaking while carrying out a cleanup at Sameta village today she advised the locals to improve their personal hygiene as a safety precaution to end the jigger menace.
She said it is a pity that most leaders in the county have not taken any action to help end the Jigger infestation, adding this has affected learning in schools.
"Jiggers are everywhere and we need to join hands and fight it as a unit hence we will achieve our goal of getting rid of it in the county,” she said.
She said leaders should be happy when some of the challenges facing their constituents are solved irrespective of the source of help.
“As leaders, they should be working with the humanitarian assistance groups by giving moral and financial support to help in ending the challenges facing the people," she said.
"They should desist from only being mindful about their political careers,” he said.
