Leaders in Nakuru County have been asked to avoid making reckless utterances that may spark animosity between various communities residing in the county.
County majority leader Waithuki Njane has said that land matters in the county have remained sensitive since independence and therefore any reckless statements regarding land can easily get out of hand.
Speaking in Nakuru today, Waithuki noted that the recent attacks witnessed in Maai-Mahiu could have been avoided if dialogue would have been embraced.
He said that it is important for residents of Nakuru to respect each other’s right to own land.
“Let us support the government’s development agenda, directed by the president to have all government hospitals and schools surveyed and title deeds issued I think it should be implemented without haste,” said Waithuki.
He said that the move will prevent grabbing of public utilities and facilitate repossessing of those already grabbed.
Further, the leader said that the Rural Electrification Authority (REA) should strive to beat the June deadline for supplying electricity in all public primary schools.
“It would be very embarrassing if the deadline will not be met considering that the electrification programme is one of the government’s flagship project in preparation for the schools laptops programme,” added Waithuki.
