Leaders have been asked to ensure equality in distribution of resources and opportunities to all genders to mitigate conflicts.

Karen Hospital chief executive Dr Betty Gikonyo made the remarks on Friday during the Nakuru County’s inaugural Prayer Breakfast.

Gikonyo said inequalities in resource allocation have greatly contributed to conflicts in society.

“It is high time for our leaders to give equal opportunities to all genders because this will contribute to development and thus equal representation in government.”

“Women representation should be accelerated as stipulated in the constitution to achieve the one-third rule principle on either gender in elective and other appointment posts,” added she added.

The Karen Hospital CEO also urged leaders from across the political divide to engage the public proactively in nurturing good relationships to actualise their development agendas.

“Unity among people from different classes will accelerate economic development and attract investors into the county and this will help ease the unemployment crisis facing the country.”

“We do not have to be hostile and violent to one another just because our thoughts are different. To think differently is healthy,” added the paediatric cardiologist.

The county held its first prayers on Friday morning, a function attended by top county leaders among other invited guests.
