Gucha Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) executive secretary Lucy Machuki who visited the school on Monday condemned the incident as "a case of gross indiscipline by a few unruly elements” as she urged for further investigation.

"The students should have expressed their support to the school at having garnered a mean of 7.9 in the KCSE which was an improvement over the previous year's mean of 7.6 points, rather than doing this shameful thing," said Machuki.

The blaze comes just a week after the students returned to the school after the half term break.

Its end term examinations have now been thrown into uncertainty with the end of the first term scheduled for next week.

Kisii county education director Richard Chepkawai has also condemned the incident and also urged all stakeholders to work together to investigate the matter and punish the culprits.
