Nyamira county elected leaders have termed Narok-Kisii highway a killer section continuously claiming human lives.
Speaking at Nyamira primary grounds during a requiem mass for the eight people who perished in a bus accident in Narok county, the leaders called for the fixing of the Narok-Kisii highway.
A bus headed to Nairobi from Kendu Bay recently, plunged into river Siyabei and killed a total 17 passengers on board and two others succumbing to injuries in hospitalized.
West Mugirango legislator Vincent Kemosi, who is also a member of the Parliamentary Committee on Transport decried lack of signs on the highway and vowed to convene a seating to discuss enforcement of safety measures on it and others.
Area Governor John Nyagarama announced: “my government will waive hospital bills for the victims who had been transferred from Narok to Nyamira hospital and a private health facility.”
“The county government has provided coffins for the victims and given the bereaved families sh. 10,000 each towards funeral expenses,” Nyagarama further said
Representing Kisii county governor James Ongwae, Deputy Governor (DG)Joash Maangi disclosed one of the victims hailed from Kisii commending Nyagarama for nondiscrimination.
Borabu MP Ben Momanyi thanked president Uhuru Kenyatta and Narok governor Samuel Ntunai for their assistance to the victims and their families immediately after the tragedy.
Majority of the victims who lost their lives will be laid to rest on Sunday.
