Edith Vethi Nyenze, widow of the late Kitui West MP Francis Nyenze might be in for a surprise entry into politics after leaders endorsed her to take the mantle from the late MP.
Following his death last month, succession plans are in the offing, with the residents trying to find a replacement.
Leaders from the area endorsed the widow during the MP’s burial, saying she is the best candidate.
Nyenze vied and won his seat on a Wiper ticket, garnering 21,136 votes, with his closest rival, Robert Mutiso Lelli of Ford Kenya, getting only 6,525.
This votes can, to a large extent be attributed to the efforts made by Edith, who moved around the area campaigning for his ailing husband.
Speaking during the burial, Narc Party leader Charity Ngilu said she was ready to give Mrs Nyenze a free ticket to contest for the seat from her party.
This was seen as a move by the Governor to strengthen and grow hi party in Kitui.
Nyenze passed on early this month, after battling colon cancer for a long time.
