Nakuru leaders hailed the Catholic church for its role in maitaining peace and cohesion in Nakuru over the years.

Speaking on Saturday at the ASK show ground where the church celebrated its 50 years of Golden Jubilee in Nakuru, leaders said the church has aided Kenyans in many spheres of social-economic.

Among those who spoke at the function is Nakuru senator Susan Kihika.

"Today I was honoured to join thousands of Catholic faithful at ASK Nakuru showground. This was during a ceremony to mark 50 years since the Catholic Diocese of Nakuru was set up," she said.

She added: "For me, it was an opportune moment to thank the Catholic Church for its great contributions especially in the fields of education, health and social welfare. It is good to note that the Catholic Diocese of Nakuru has played a huge role in promoting peace, cohesion and social justice not only in Nakuru but in the whole country."

The Catholic Diocese of Nakuru was founded on January 11, 1968.

The celebrations were led by Cardinal John Njue who urged Kenyans to live together as brother and sisters.
