Leaders and other well wishers have been urged to join hands in supporting girl child education in Kisumu County and other areas within Nyanza region.
Nyanza Initiative for Girls Education and Empowerment (NIGEE) programmess coordinator Godfrey Okumu said that this is the only way to reduce the higher rate at which most girls drop out of school within the region.
Okumu explained that education is the only key to a better future, hence girl child should not be left behind in matters related to education
Speaking to journalists in Kisumu on Saturday, Okumu said that NIGEE, an NGO has lined up various activities including the upcoming marathon to help collect funds in aid of girl-child education within Godfrey Okumu.
“There is need for us as the community and other stakeholders to support girlchild. They have been neglected in the past especially on matters education,” said Okumu.
He said the first marathon will be held on 22nd this month in Migori town before the same event is rolled to Kisumu.
Okumu further emphasized that for better education to be achieved especially for girl-child, more effort must be put from various stakeholders.
According to Nyanza Initiative for Girls Education and Empowerment (NIGEE) events coordinator Symphrose Okinda, the organisation is currently sponsoring 306 students, majorly girls, from various schools within Kisumu County and other parts of Nyanza with an aim of shaping their future.
She encouraged well-wishers to partner with them in supporting girl child education within the region.
