Jubilee Party leaders in Kilifi County have opposed NASA’s planned anti-IEBC protests on election day.The leaders, led by Mwanase Famau, said the planned demonstrations will disrupt the voting process, and urged the government to take action against individuals who will interfere with the polls. The leaders argued that Kenya deserves better than street protests on election day."Protests on election day will cause political tensions in the country and continue to stifle businesses. Let opposition abandon threats of anti-IEBC demos since they may lead to deaths and destruction to property,” said Mwanase. She said Kenyans, irrespective of their political inclinations should avoid violence and allow the electorate to vote for a presidential candidate of their choice.“Violence will scare voters from exercising their democratic right of voting. Police officers should be alert to disperse protesters without using excessive force,” she said.Mwanase asked youth in the Coast region to remain calm and shun politicians who will make them foment trouble. Her sentiments were reiterated by Mufidah Mohamed who called on the opposition leadership to respect the political process and allow Kenyans to participate in the polls.Michael Tinga on his part said the Mijikenda, the largest community in the Coast region will vote for President Uhuru Kenyatta in Thursday’s repeat poll.
