Mavoko Member of Parliament Patrick Makau together with Members of County Assembly (MCA) have joined Mavoko area residents in the pursuit to acquire the 32,000 acres piece of land at Konza which was originally earmarked for livestock research.
The construction of Konza Technocity is expected to be a game changer in Kenya’s development in the efforts to realize the economic pillars of the vision 2030. Nonetheless, the project is deemed a calamity to local residents as they cry foul of land confiscation.
Addressing the area residents in the land near the proposed Konza Technocity yesterday (Saturday), Mavoko Member of Parliament Patrick Makau faulted the government for being inconsiderate of the locals whom, he said, have no other home to go to.
“These people have been living here even before independence and they are used to this place. They rightfully own this land. Where do you want them to go? The livestock research can wait. One human life is much more important than millions of livestock,” complained the MP.
According to Makau, the land should be allocated to locals to develop it as a residential area for the Konza Technocity.
He said the allocation would address historical land injustices as the land originally belonged to the locals.
The Mavoko policymaker asked Machakos governor Alfred Mutua to join the quest and ensure the land is reverted to the locals.
Makonza society Chairman Shadrack Muli and his Konza South society counterpart Harrison Ngui arrived at the venue in a chopper and assured members they were on course to ensure the mess is cleaned.
