Led by Nakuru County Deputy Governor Joseph Ruto, the leaders alleged that Nakuru Town East MP David Gikaria was accompanied by rowdy youth who were armed with pangas and disrupted county staff from going on with their duties.

Ruto blamed police in Nakuru for turning a bride eye on the criminals adding that the MP together with the youth must be arrested and arraigned in court to face assault among other charges.

“If the work of the police is to maintain law and order and also arrest criminals, why did they fail to arrest the MP together with the armed youths who attacked our officers? Is it an act of cowardice or undermining the powerless? Actions must be taken,” he said.

The deputy governor called on Security Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaiserry to reshuffle police officers who are in Nakuru County for failing to act on public outcry.

Ruto, who said police in Nakuru have outlived their usefulness, wondered how an MP could attack citizens whom he should highly protect in respect of the rule of law.

Njoro legislator Joseph Kiuna urged MPs to concentrate on their work in the constituency instead of regular criticism on Governor Kinuthia Mbugua’s administration.

He said some of the leaders were creating disunity in the county adding that leaders must shun incitement while addressing the public.

“Whenever there are issues, we must talk to each other before going to the public or the press,” added Kiuna.

Nakuru County Assembly Speaker Susan Kihikia and majority leader Waithuki Njane lashed out at Gikaria and Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri claiming that the two leaders were fighting the county government without facts.
