Kisumu County MCAs have today criticised and condemned recent remarks made by Kisumu Central MP Ken Obura regarding ODM party and Cord Leader Raila Odinga.
Led by the assembly’s Chief Whip Isaiah Onyango, the MCA’s said the MP should toe the Orange Democratic Movement’s party line or defect to another party.
Onyango said the Coalition for Reform and Democracy (CORD), as the opposition, needed not to cooperate with the government but to find ways of getting into the government.
Majority leader Samuel Onyango Ongow who is also the Kisumu County ODM coordinator says the MP should be reminded of the role of the opposition. He added that Obura should stop consuming electorates.
Speaking to the media at the assembly precincts, Ongow challenged the MP to come out clean and state his position in ODM and CORD which he represents in parliament.
Central Seme MCA John Kadede says the remarks by Obura that Odinga has no role to play in present day politics is unfortunate and reckless. Kadede says Obura owes all ODM followers and leaders an apology.
On the same issue, local residents led by members of the Kisumu Central Bunge la Wananchi through their chairman Willik Omboke have challenged the MP to resign and join another party if he so wishes.
Omboke said the MP should not purport to be speaking on their behalf but that he is pursuing his own interests.
The MP has been under fire for saying that most leaders in ODM are old and that the idea of passing greetings from Raila Odinga in public gatherings must be stopped.
