A delegation of ODM leaders from Homa Bay County officially handed the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga a memorandum requesting him to vie for the county's senatorial seat.
Led by ODM chairperson and Suba MP John Mbadi, the leaders appealed for the former premier to consider taking up the seat that was left vacant following the death of Otieno Kajwang'.
Mbadi revealed that already, they have consulted with various leaders from the region and are in support of the idea. He revealed that on Thursday, the party intends to convene a meeting with all aspirants who have shown interest in the Homa Bay County Senatorial seat.
Raila, who received the memorandum at his Opoda farm in Bondo, however did not comment on the issue.
Present at the meeting were Homa Bay county Women representative Gladys Wanga, Kisumu East MP Shakiil Shabir, Suna West MP Junet Mohamed, Nicholas Gumbo (Rarieda), Opiyo Wanday (Ugunja) among other leaders from the region.
However, the Luo Council Of Elders, Homa Bay Branch held a parallel meeting on the same in Homa Bay, where they vowed to reject Raila in the county's senatorial seat.
Addressing the journalists in Homa Bay after a day long meeting, the chairperson of the Luo Council Of Elders Homa Bay County branch Nyandiko Ongadi said the idea of pushing Raila to vie for the seat has a ill motive and intends to lower the political power of the former PM.
He advised the leaders rallying behind Raila to change course and allow the Homa Bay county residents to decide who suits the senatorial seat and who must be a native of Homa Bay.
Nyandiko said that the council will on December 11 conduct a massive rally at Homa Bay county to stress their stand.
