The cold blood killing of Kabete MP George Muchai, his two bodyguards and driver on Saturday left many Kenyans speculating, with some suggesting that it was an outright assassination.
Renowned journalist-turned-political commentator David Makali (@makali001) tweeted: "Assassination has become the normal way of sorting out differences in Kenya. From terror suspects to private and political disputes. Sad state".
In another tweet Makali said, "there is stuff going on in this country; Fact: there are hit squads".
Whatever the motive behind Muchai's murder is, this is still a subject under police investigation.
However, Muchai had late last year reported that his life was in danger.
"Sometimes back the Citizen Weekly had a story that made very malicious allegations about me that I was involved in a love affair with someone’s wife and there is a bitter husband somewhere and that he had given me one week to withdraw from that affair with his wife or he spills the beans," said Muchai.
"I want to say that this is a fabrication of the people opposed to me at COTU who want to eliminate me and blame the elimination on the so called bitter husband," added Muchai.
Elgeyo-Marakwet senator Kipchumba Murkomen tweeted, “For what is a man profited if he shall gain power wealth and the whole world by assassinating others and lose his life in eternity. #RIPMuchai”
