In the video, which was at first misinterpreted, Uhuru is heard requesting a section of Nairobi residents to channel their problems through the deputy because he is always available.

"This boy of mine Ruto always roams around every weekend. We you come across him chanell some of the issues," he said.

But at Nyamira, a section of leaders have urged the president to withdraw the remarks since they lacked 'respect'.

"Whether he was a joke or not, he needs to apologise to the deputy president. The remarks are unnecessary," said Victor Swanya, a Wiper politician.

Former North Mugirango MP Charles Geni said: "Those remarks were not necessary and he should apologise. The DP needs some sort of respect."

Since then, State House has insisted that the video clip was on a lighter note adding that the president did not mean to demean his deputy.
