Leaders from Nyamira County have asked Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i to either seek ways to ensure the immediate construction of the proposed Nyamira University or spare the Kisii University, Nyamira campus from closure.Speaking on Sunday at Obwari Catholic Church, former North Mugirango MP Wilfred Ombui said the county has no single university and closing the only satellite campus is a ridicule to the residents."Matiang'i is our son and if there was anything he thought could be done in order not to close the satellite campus, then he could have advised even if it meant for us to fundraise and make it better rather than closing it, where are we going to take our children? let him spare the university or speed up the construction of the proposed Nyamira university,"said Ombui. His sentiments were echoed by KICC chairperson Omingo Magara who said the county deserves more institutions instead of closing the existing ones. "How can you close institutions when we need more? Matiang'i is managing the education sector at an uncontrollable pace, he should not govern us as if we are from the sky, let him take us slow," said Magara.
