A section Naivasha leaders want land owners whose lands are sitting idle to sell them to investors. The leaders argued that there is scarcity of land in the area as huge chunks of land are now owned by private individuals. Led by Lakeview Member of County Assembly Simon Wanyoike Wanango the leaders observed that large tracts of the free land should have already been put to good use. “Due to its close proximity to Nairobi the town already has a huge traffic of investors coming to the area. However, many hotels cannot invest in the area due to lack of land,” he added. Wanango argued that there was enough land that lay bare in the area. Masada Hotel Director Rahab Mwihaki cited that many hotels did not have land to expand their rooms into standard facilities that can attract major business opportunities. “We have had many cancellations since we do not have enough bed space to host the huge number of guests. We are already willing to build and expand our hotels and hence create more job opportunities,” she stated. Naivasha Member of Parliament John Kihagi argued that the introduction of the new bill in parliament regarding idle land would sort out the bare land issue. “We will ensure that the fines of leaving the land unused will be too high and hence owners they will be forced to put the land into good use,” he added. Kihagi also raised concern over the delayed opening of the lake corridors, saying that this would help in the introduction of public beaches. “Anyone can invest in a hotel and hence enabling someone to bring his visitors to the public beach will be a huge advantage,” he added.
