Kisii County deputy governor Joash Maangi has urged police to ensure that all political leaders propagating hate speech are arrested and charged regardless of their political affiliation.
Maangi said he will support and work hand in hand with police officers who are out to prosecute hate speech mongers regardless of political affiliations.
Speaking on Monday morning when he held a meeting with the new Kisii County commissioners Mrs Kula Hache, the Deputy governor, however, said he will not cooperate with police officers being used by politicians to harass other political leaders.
“We as the county government of Kisii need a peaceful county and the only way we can achieve that is by ensuring that our leaders are always responsible for their actions,” he added.
He further assured the commissioner of maximum cooperation from the county government of Kisii as she carries her daily duties.
The remarks by the governor who is a member of the Cord coalition come soon after eight politicians from both Jubilee and Cord were detained and hauled before a Nairobi Court and charged with propagating hate speech and incitement.
