Tension was high in Butula sub-county on Wednesday as leaders and residents took to the streets in protest of the recent killings witnessed in the region.

Led by Deputy Governor Kizito Wangalwa, leader of Majority in the County Assembly Josephat Wandera and a host of MCAs, the leaders urged the government to transfer the senior security officers in the county for for they had failed to perform.

The leaders also said the security officers have overstayed in the region which is likely to be contributing towards their laxity at work.

The politicians demanded to have a meeting with regional coordinator Mongo Chimwanga in order to find a way forward failure to which they will continue with demonstrations.

"We want a meeting with the national government and not junior officers. The regional coordinator must be part of that meeting or his seniors. We don't want the county commissioner or the deputy county commissioner since they are State witnesses," stated Wangalwa, as quoted by the Standard.

This comes after County Commissioner John Chelimo banned demonstrations in the region adding that investigations were underway.

"The Independent Police Oversight Authority is carrying out its mandate with our officers on the ground. We have talked to the leaders and come to an agreement," said Chelimo.
