The decision by the Ministry of Education to deny Kisii University Vice Chancellor another chance to serve has been backed by a section of local leadership.
During the August and October polls, Akama openly campaigned for President Uhuru Kenyatta, a move that did not go down well with ODM leadership.
And it has since emerged that Akama's attempts to have his contract renewed was declined by the ministry, an indication that his days in the institution are numbered.
"These are some of the people who should have been chased long time ago. They went against ethics by involving themselves in campaigns," said Victor Swanya.
ODM treasurer Timothy Bosire said: "He deserves to be flushed out of office. This is someone who even paid students of the university to attend Jubilee rallies."
Sources privy to ongoing recruitment intimate that Akama has since fallen out of favour and will not have his contract renewed.
He first became VC in 2013 when the institution was chartered and had previously served as principal in the same institution.
